Green Smoothie Recipe for Better Behavior and Health
Sep 2nd 2009 · by admin
I make a large batch of this smoothie almost every morning. The ingredients change according to what is seasonal and locally available.
It literally changed my body in a matter of months. I have had one almost every single day since September of 2008. I lost 35 pounds of stubborn “baby” weight, gained tons of energy, eliminated PMS…. Friends and family I’ve turned onto Green Smoothies have also lost weight, reduced high blood pressure and were able to reduce some medications. Check with your doctor if you are taking medications as fruits and dark leafy greens are powerful.
The smoothie recipe below makes enough to fill a regular blender.
Serves 1 to 2
(get organic produce if you can, either way wash well!)
3 Dark Leafy Greens (rotate these regularly for optimum nutrition)
Kales, Chards, Collards, Romaine leaves, bunch of Spinach, flat leaf Parsley, Dandelion or Beet Greens)
2 cups cold filtered water
Blend well, then add:
1 apple,de-seeded
1ripe pear, de-seeded
1 orange, peeled, de-seeded
1 banana, peeled
1 cup frozen berries (blueberries or strawberries are my favorite)
2 Tbsp Flax seed oil (for Omegas)
1- half inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and sliced (optional)
Place the fruit in and blend until smooth. Taste it.If it is too “green” for you then add another sweet fruit of your choice and blend again. Aim to eventually getting to a ratio of 40% greens/water and 60% fruit
Experiment, eat seasonal and local when you can and be sure to rotate your produce so that you are not eating the same fruits / greens for days on end.
IMPORTANT TRICK: if your child dislikes the color, add frozen blueberries to mask it. Also, give them a straw, it helps make it fun especially for the younger ones – works really well for my discriminating toddler.
What is your favorite smoothie combination?

I highly suggest you use green smoothies to get in your 5-7 daily servings minimum – raw fruits and dark leafy greens are necessary to be operating at optimum health. Cooked root vegetables, especially if processed and packaged, are not going to cut it if you want to be the best parent you can be!
PS I forgot to mention the wonderful superfoods you can add to this: try spirulina, flax seed oil or bee pollen. I always do flax seed oil and switch between the other two depending on my mood.
