Dare To Love Yourself Challenge Video Day 2 – My “This Too Shall Pass” Moment

Here’s my Dare To Love Yourself Challenge Video Day 2 – I share with you my “This Too Shall Pass” Moment:

I have tried affirmations in the past without a huge shift – but I never did stick to it every day for 3 weeks. When I do them I feel like I am lying sometimes. When I’m not in a good mood I can’t possibly believe that many of those phrases could ever be possible.

A friend of mine on Facebook, Nancy Barry-Jansson has taught hundreds of people how to get the most from affirmations and is a coach. Her comment to my Day 1 Challenge video yesterday was “Be kind to yourself, Andrea. If affirmations were *true* you wouldn’t benefit from saying them ~feeling like a stretch means they will stretch your consciousness (if you stick with them). If they are too much of a stretch, you can baby-step them.” The part I bolded really helped me feel better.

Dare To Love Yourself Challenge “Families don’t need Martyrs, they need Mothers”

“Families don’t need martyrs, they need mothers. You have to take care of yourself first, so you have something to give. You can’t give what you don’t have.” Dr. Phil

This quote was posted by a friend of mine who is taking the Dare To Love Yourself Challenge with me.

Here’s a few videos I recorded, will try to Vlog every day of the Challenge!! =)

An Aggressive Child is a Scared Child

Angry kidCan you see this angry child as a scared child? Image by foamcow via Flickr.

Today in our online parenting class that started last month we completed Session 7 in the course which deals with Chapter 9 in Beyond Consequences, Logic & Control Volume 1 on Aggression. Our goals for today’s session were:

  1. To help participants identify anger as fear. An aggressive child is a scared child.
  2. To help parents understand that aggression is a survival behavior, triggered when feeling threatened.
  3. Equip parents to identify their own fear reactions when their child is aggressive.
  4. Teach techniques that can be used to create safety and decrease the creation of more fear and stress.
  5. Help them realize that aggression is not a personal attack against them. Help them shift their belief that their child is rejecting them.
  6. Help them understand that the core drive of aggressive behavior is not control, it is protection. [Read more →]

Certified Beyond Consequences Parenting Instructor

Online Parenting Class TextbookI am pleased to announce that I attended the Beyond Consequences Certified Instructor Training in Los Angeles this past weekend!

I spent two insightful days with Heather T. Forbes, LCSW, and truly did experience a training like no other. Heather brought her professionalism and understanding of the Beyond Consequences parenting paradigm to this training. Like the “Every Day is Mother’s Day” Moms Conference I attended last month, Heather also moved me to a new understanding of myself — cognitively, emotionally, and spiritually.

Eric Guy, LSW, a nationally recognized therapist and speaker taught this Instructor Training. I liked the balance of their energies and loved the synergy of their work together! I really enjoyed Eric’s style and presence; his parenting demonstrations were powerful and inspiring.

I attended to learn to actively implement excellent parenting techniques and learn to regulate during stress filled times, empower myself and my family, be a local support to my community, have an opportunity to truly help other parents.
